Iowa – The Iowa Insurance Commissioner has asked insurers to extend relief to consumers impacted by recent severe weather and natural disasters. Insurers are requested to allow policyholder coverage to remain in effect despite late or nonpayment of premiums and to provide premium grace periods as requested for all impacted Iowa residents through August 15, 2024.

New Mexico – June 18, 2024. The New Mexico Superintendent of Insurance has declared an emergency disaster in Lincoln County and the Mescalero Apache Reservation after the recent devastating wildfires. There is a 120-day do not lapse period on health insurance policy cancellations or non-renewals due to non-payment of premiums to policyholders impacted by the wildfires. Impacted policyholders may request a payment plan of no less than six months if unable to pay after the 120-day grace period.

Texas – July 11, 2024. The Texas Department of Insurance has requested that insurers work with policyholders affected by Hurricane Beryl who need more time to pay premiums to continue coverage. The moratorium applies to all life, accident, and health insurance policies issued for those adversely impacted. Insurers are requested to allow a 30-day grace period (60-day period to September 3 for certain counties) for premium payment and allow policyholders coverage to remain in effect despite late or nonpayment of premiums. Additional time may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Vermont – July 12, 2024. In response to recent storms, the State of Vermont Department of Financial Regulation has requested a 30-day grace period for non-payment of premiums and/or reasonable requests for payment plans for those temporarily displaced. This accommodation will expire on August 11, 2024.
